The Moravian Church seal consists of a lamb with its head encompassed by light standing in front of a staff flying a white banner with a red cross, all surrounded by a circular frame. Inscribed around the frame are the words, “Our Lamb has conquered. Let us follow Him.” The lamb is called the Agnus Dei, the Lamb of God, and represents the risen Christ. The banner is a symbol of victory, indicating the triumph of Christ over sin and death.

Originally a geometry class project in a Moravian school in Germany in the 1830s, this multi-pointed design was soon adopted by the Moravian church as a beloved symbol for Advent. Representng the star of Bethlehem, it is hung traditionally from the first Sunday of Advent until Epiphany, the coming of the Magi. Today the stars are popular decorations around the world. The Moravian star depicted in this cross stitch kit is surrounded by words taken from the traditional Moravian carol, "Morning Star, O Cheering Sight!"
